International Franchise Expo Equals 400-Plus Franchise Opportunities in One Great City
Veteran exhibitors agree that IFE is one of the best places to market, build and grow a franchise.
The International Franchise Expo, or IFE as it is often called, is drawing near, and thousands of entrepreneurs, business owners and investors across the world are gearing up for the largest franchise expo in the nation. This year, the IFE will be bigger than ever, drawing in a huge audience of who’s who in the franchise industry, and those looking to be part of it.
The expo returns to New York City June 20-22 at the Javits Center. Hundreds of franchisors are preparing to showcase their distinctive brands to investors and prospective franchisees. The top names in the business will be on hand to present their concepts to an expected crowd of 20,000 candidates seeking a new business opportunity. In 2012, the IFE hosted 334 exhibiting companies, more than 11,400 domestic and more than 2,800 international visitors.
Veteran exhibitors agree that IFE is one of the best places to market, build and grow a franchise. “The kind of people we meet at the New York Franchise Expo are typically very high net worth people; people that are looking to get into business and are serious prospects,” said Goddard Schools Director of Franchise Development Jeff Travitz, CFE. United Franchise Group CEO Ray Titus boasted that the quality of the attendees walking the show floor in New York City was outstanding; the leads UFG received at the IFE were terrific. “From the opening bell, the IFE was jammed packed in the aisles. We like it”, said Titus.
Making a Splash
Once again, IFE has teamed up with the best media partners in the business, including Franchising World, Franchise Times, Entrepreneur Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Franchise Update, Opportunity World, The Franchise Magazine UK and so many more. Virtually every online franchise recruitment website has partnered with IFE to attract the best and brightest candidates to visit the expo, get educated and start a business of their own. If you are developing your franchise, you need to seriously consider exhibiting at the IFE.
“We are investing a ton of money, effort and time into making IFE the biggest franchise show in the world,” said Jim Mastandrea, group show director for MFV Expositions, producers of IFE. “Our partnership with the International Franchise Association, sponsor of the show, is really a gateway to membership in the IFA for new franchises; and since all members receive incentive pricing on their booth space, the IFA membership just about pays for itself,” said Mastandrea. In fact, MFV Expositions was recently recognized by IFA for its tireless work in membership recruitment. The IFE is the largest franchise show in the United States, and this year the expo floor has virtually doubled in size with two contiguous exhibit halls to ensure a seamless experience for thousands of show visitors and exhibitors.
MFV has once again engaged the services of Fishman Public Relations to help promote the event to local and national media. In 2012, Fishman delivered the IFE message and the coverage was outstanding. The IFE was featured on several popular news programs in the New York metropolitan area and included in full-page coverage in the Star-Ledger and other newspapers.
Trade Show Exemption Status
MFV Expositions continues to work closely with the New York State Attorney General’s Office and is proud to offer franchisors not registered in New York the opportunity to apply for “Trade Show Exemption” status, allowing them to conduct business during the expo. This fee-based exemption, provided by the New York State Attorney General was a tremendous success in 2012, and it opens up the expo doors to a new group of franchise businesses. With the exemption, franchisors can exhibit at the IFE without formal registration with the state of New York and promote their opportunity on the expo floor during trade show hours. Of course, actual sales agreements must take place after the company has registered.
International development remains a key goal for many franchises. Franchising internationally can be complicated, and expos provide a perfect opportunity for making connections and building the relationships you’ll need to build your business.
The IFE is one of a select group of shows recognized by the U.S. Commercial Service through the International Buyer Program. IBP brings thousands of buyers to the United States for business-to-business matchmaking. Many franchisors have already taken advantage of the simple application process that will allow them to make those connections at the show. Visitors from more than 90 countries will be on hand as the IFE continues to be the best venue to grow domestically and throughout the world.
“Continuing the exemption opportunity sets the IFE apart from any other franchise event in the United States,” said Mastandrea. “2012 was our biggest event yet and 2013 promises to be even bigger and we continue to make sure that the attendees will have every opportunity at their disposal to make connections locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.”

The IFE offers something for everyone. Franchisors attend expos like this to showcase their concept to hundreds of potential investors, arriving armed with a franchise development team ready make an impression and generate leads and sales.
“We exhibit at the IFE for one reason and that’s to do deals and grow our business”, said CruiseOne Director of Franchise Development Tim Courtney, CFE. “The bottom line is whether or not the show produces results – and we have already closed six deals from IFE 2012. The best part? Just recently we heard from someone we met in New York City last year and she told us she’s ready to start a franchise. Those are real results,” added Courtney.
