IFA Board Meeting Provides Forum for Strategic Planning
The International Franchise Association Board of Directors’ meeting conducted this past June at a facility in Sea Island, Ga. provided a perfect setting for franchise leaders to think outside the box and share their ideas about addressing critical issues facing the industry. Such issues as continuing to effectively impact public policy decisions affecting franchise businesses, building positive public opinion, and better leveraging and sharing IFA members’ views on the economic outlook through targeted research were discussed. IFA Chairman Jon Luther (chairman of Dunkin’ Brands) and IFA President and CEO Steve Caldeira, CFE, welcomed the franchise business leaders and set the stage for participants’ engagement in the proceedings.
The multi-day session also enabled participants to gain more information on ways to move the industry forward. IFA staff outlined the strategic plan and ways to ensure that performance measurements are kept. The Blue Sky Group, headed by Two Men And A Truck International, Inc. Chairwoman of the Board Melanie Bergeron, CFE, and IFA secretary, is focusing on how IFA can integrate technologies and communication vehicles that allow better communication among individuals. Bergeron updated attendees on where IFA stands now and mechanisms to reach connectivity.
IFA programs for attracting military veterans to franchising, VetFran, and the association’s political action committee, FranPAC, also garnered attention from those in attendance. Prior to the July Fourth holiday, VetFran Committee Chairwoman Mary Kennedy Thompson, CFE, president of Mr. Rooter, described the launch in 12 cities of new tools to put veterans back to work in franchising utilizing a VetFran Toolkit and a Veterans Mentor Network, as part of its Operation Enduring Opportunity campaign. During a FranPAC raffle and wine auction, these leaders once again showed their firm commitment to political advocacy by helping to raise nearly $163,000.
