“Extreme” Entrepreneur Receives Don DeBolt Scholarship

“Extreme” Entrepreneur Receives Don DeBolt Scholarship
I became an entrepreneur in the eighth grade,” says Rob Emmett, the recipient of this year’s DECA/Don DeBolt annual scholarship. Emmett founded Extreme Car Makeover in the eighth grade, and by the time he entered college he had more than 100 clients. Emmett is now a freshman at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater.
Emmett’s’ goal after graduation is to expand his car detailing business and he says the DECA/DeBolt scholarship will help him save money, so he can invest more in his business. DECA is the premier student organization preparing young people for careers in marketing, management and entrepreneurship.
Emmett became involved with DECA at Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wis., and quickly rose to be chapter president for two consecutive years. In addition to improving his leadership and management skills, he says that DECA taught him the importance of giving back to the community. In that connection, Emmett organized chapter volunteers to support the Milwaukee Hunger Task Force. Through his leadership, the Whitnall DECA chapter holds the record for the largest school-based food drive in Wisconsin.
A picture quickly emerges about this young man with the qualities of an entrepreneur right down to the name of his business, Extreme Car Makeover.
The DECA/Don DeBolt Scholarship, named in honor of IFA’s president who served from 1995 to 2004, is conducted in cooperation with DECA’s High School and Collegiate Divisions. Two $2,000 scholarships are presented to graduating high school DECA members who have an expressed interest in continuing to study franchise entrepreneurship in college. One $5,000 award is presented to the winning team in Collegiate DECA’s “Entrepreneurship Challenge.” Because of his particular interest in entrepreneurship, Emmett was selected to represent all of the scholarship winners, and the IFA/DECA partnership, at this year’s IFA Annual Convention in Orlando. 
